When Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) passed away in 1954, her husband, Diego Rivera, commissioned poet Carlos Pellicer to transform her iconic family home, the Blue House, into a museum. Pellicer curated a selection of Kahlo’s paintings, drawings, photographs, books, and ceramics, preserving the space exactly as it had been when Kahlo and Rivera lived and worked there. Meanwhile, many of Kahlo’s personal belongings, including clothing, documents, letters, and over 6,000 photographs she had amassed throughout her life, were stored away in converted bathrooms and wardrobes. For more than fifty years, this remarkable collection remained concealed until it was recently uncovered. Among the most striking discoveries was Kahlo's extensive photograph collection, which offers profound insights into the couple's tastes and interests, not only through the images themselves but also through the revealing annotations. Frida Kahlo: Her Photos provides a fascinating and significant addition to our understanding of Kahlo's life and work, allowing us to delve into her and Rivera's personal preferences and family history.
