This is the first monograph on Arthur Elrod, the design king of the desert during the 1950s, '60s, and '70s. As the most successful interior designer in the Palm Springs area from 1954 to 1974, Elrod's innovative midcentury designs graced primary homes, second houses, country clubs, and more across the U.S. He charmed A-list clients like Lucille Ball and Walt Disney, with his most famous project being his own Elrod House, built by architect John Lautner in 1968. Elrod collaborated with leading California architects and was a key figure in the modernist movement. Tragically, his life was cut short at 49 when a drunk driver struck his convertible in February 1974. This biography offers a unique insight into the life of this midcentury design icon.
